Staff absence and broken-down vehicles have been blamed by Waverley for missed bin collections in the town this week.
Residents of Catteshall Lane, Eashing Lane and parts of Ockford Ridge had complained that their bins had not been collected on the allotted day. Despite householders being asked to leave them out for a 'catch-up' collection, they had still been left.
Darren Campbell, who lives in Catteshall Lane, said his bins hadn't been emptied for two weeks.
"It's becoming an absolute joke," he said. He told Nub News today (Thursday) that his black bin had eventually been emptied but the recycling bin was still awaiting collection. One Eashing Lane resident said he had complained about the lack of collections and been told by Waverley that the lorries had been unable to get up the lane due to the roadworks at the bottom. He had pointed out to her, he said, that construction vehicles on their way to the development site at Aarons Hill had been able to navigate the area.
Waverley told Nub News that additional resources were being brought in to catch up with the missed collections, and the rounds should be up to date by the end of the week.
In response to concerns that uncollected bins could be a health hazard, a spokesperson said: "A delay of one or two days for collections will not present a health hazard if residents have properly separated their food waste and recycling and have stored their waste correctly."
