A Witley man is setting out on a long walk this Bank Holiday Monday – and he doesn't expect to be back until Wednesday night.

Ben Rogers, 33, is the facilities assistant at Busbridge Church in Godalming. He is setting off to walk the Greensand Way to raise money to help run the planned new coffee drop-in centre at the church.

Ben told Nub News: "At Busbridge Church it is pretty much confirmed that we will be given permission to redevelop our Church Centre. This is not the church building itself but a separate building that has been used over the years for a wide variety of functions.

"The plan is to change it to a coffee drop-in, mostly for the parents who use our disabled ramp/footpath in the churchyard between Busbridge Infant and Busbridge Junior schools. Saying that, everyone in the local community will have access to it.

"We have just about raised enough funds for the redevelopment. Any donations that I receive will go towards the running of it."

The route Ben has chosen to walk is the Greensand Way, a 108-mile route from Haslemere to Hamstreet in Kent. He will leave Haslemere at 8am on Bank Holiday Monday and walk the entire route, stopping to sleep overnight. His plan is to arrive at Hamstreet by 5pm on Wednesday (September 2nd).
