Call goes out for a new parish councillor in Hambledon

Hambledon Parish Council is looking for a new councillor to fill the gap left by the resignation of a longstanding member last month.

The vacancy has been created by the departure of Mike Parry, who had been a parish councillor since 2011.

When a parish councillor steps down, electors are given 14 working days to band together and request a formal election. If no election is called for by 10 or more parishioners, the vacancy is filled by co-opting a new member.

The deadline expired at the end of last week with no request for an election, so Hambledon's new parish councillor will be co-opted.

Applications open today (Monday, November 2nd) and will remain open for 10 working days, until 6pm on Friday, November 13th.

Anyone who wishes to apply for the post should check they are eligible and then contact Hambledon Parish Council clerk Julie Flenley by email.

Applicants are asked to write, in no more than 300 words, a submission detailing why they think they would be suitable for the role. The parish council will consider the applications, and announce its decision at the next meeting.

Anyone who would like to discuss the role is asked to contact chairman John Anderson on 01428 682666 or vice chairman Stewart Payne on 07831 393561.
