The coronavirus pandemic has hit many small charities, businesses and sports groups.

One of those is the Farncombe-based Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club, which has been unable to run classes for much of the year. That has meant instructor Benny Soo Tho has been unable to generate the income to enable him to replace the mats used in class.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu offers classes for adults as well as children aged five and over, plus self-defence workshops for local women and vulnerable people of all ages.

Benny said: "Our current mats that we are using are provided by the venue and they are very old and run down with holes and gaps. Rather than offering us the protection that we need, these mats might actually cause injuries in the near future.

"We are desperately in need of new mats so that we can continue to safely provide classes for the local community. Due to COVID-19 we have been hit very hard as we have been unable to run classes to save for these much-needed mats."
