The Catteshall Lane Christmas Lights display has signed off with a target-busting £1,558 in donations.

Richard Atkinson has put on a festive display every Christmas for almost 30 years to raise money for charity, and says this year's final total is the biggest yet.

He kept the lights up until Valentine's Day to boost people's spirits during lockdown and to raise more cash for The Meath, his chosen charity for the year.

The cash came in via the bucket Richard placed in front of the display, and online via a dedicated website, with the final total adding up to £1,558.09.

He said: "We can definitely say it's been an absolutely massive success, far beating any previous year. Thanks again to everyone who made a donation."

This was the last year for the display as Richard is moving house this year.

"We've enjoyed bringing smiles to the faces of those who have come by to enjoy the lights and we've enjoyed being able to help many charities, some local, some national," he said.

"Maybe we'll be back one day, with a new display elsewhere. "
