Council backs plastic-free campaign

By The Editor 10th Jul 2020

The Plastic Free Godalming Campaign has received a boost from Godalming Town Council, which has agreed to throw its weight behind the campaign.

It has also resolved to take several positive actions, including no longer buying any single-use plastic items for use at its meetings or in its offices, and where possible using non-plastic products.

Where no suitable alternative product is available, the council, it says, will only use Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) recyclable plastics.

The council also agreed to use its influence to urge local retailers to provide plastic-free options for residents; and where possible, provide water refill stations to help reduce the use of single-use water bottles.

The decision followed a presentation to the town council's environment and planning committee by Karen McDonald from the campaign.
