Godalming Town Council has drawn up a list of residential roads in the town that could get an electric vehicle charging point.
The council asked residents to suggest good spots for the charging points, and councillors at last week's town council environment and planning meeting agreed on a shortlist.
The roads on the shortlist are: George Road/Grays Road, Wolseley Road/Lower Manor Road, Ballfield Road/Frith Hill Road, Town End Street/Catteshall Lane, and Ockford Ridge.
The list will now go to Surrey County Council, where officials will draw up more detailed plans and launch a consultation with residents.
The cost of the charging points will be met by funding from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, a government department which has a £900m budget to promote the use of low- and zero-emission vehicles across the UK.
