A project set up by Surrey County Council to plant 1.2 million trees in the county has so far seen 22 planted in and around Godalming, as well as 10 metres of hedgerow.
Launched in 2019, the campaign aims to plant one tree for every resident by 2030 in support of the council's aim to be net carbon zero by 2050. Since the launch of the initiative, over 40,000 trees and 6,000 hedge plants have been planted in Surrey.
Six trees have been planted at Guildford Crematorium, five at Busbridge Infant School, two at Mary Vale, one next to the Co-op in Portsmouth Road, Milford, five at Milford Infant School, one on the Cherry Tree Road roundabout in Milford and two at the end of Eashing Lane where it joins the A283 in Milford. The hedgrow was planted at Busbridge Junior School.
The council is working with district and borough councils across the county as well as organisations such as the Woodland Trust, schools and businesses. During National Tree Week last December, 265 trees and 224 hedge packs were sent to 91 schools across the county. The tree planting season runs from October to March. You can use this handy online map to see where trees have been planted.
