Godalming Town Council's leader has said the Government's decision to keep Waverley in Tier Two of the Coronavirus restrictions while the rest of the county is moved into Tier Three is a reflection of the hard work of residents to keep the infection rate down.
He told Nub News: "I am very pleased to see that the government have listened to the very detailed case put forward by Waverley Borough Council that we should remain in Tier 2.
"It reflects a lot of hard work by residents, businesses and our local councils to keep rates down.
"I would advise residents not to be complacent, as rates are still on the rise in the borough. But this is excellent news and reflects the progress we have made locally.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced in the Commons within the last hour that Waverley would remain in Tier Two, with the rest of the county being moved into the stricter tier from midnight on Saturday.
The move reflects rising disquiet among health officials and in government about the increasing infection rate across the South East.
