Extinction Rebellion activists who took to the streets of Godalming on Saturday are planning action on a bigger stage when they join demonstrations planned for central London next week.
The 'swarm' of cyclists headed out around Godalming on Saturday afternoon, in support of the upcoming demonstrations as well as sustainable transport in and around the town.
"We had representatives from Godalming Town Council and Waverley Borough Council, as well as Godalming Cycling Campaign in the group, which was great to see," said Tim from XR.
"The route included Flambards Way, Meadrow and Bridge Street, roads which generally do not make for comfortable cycling, so claiming back road space from motor traffic for a change felt really good."
Now activists from the group are busy making plans, flags and banners for the big protest in the capital, which will begin on September 1st with the occupation of Parliament Square.
Tim said the crisis facing the planet demands urgent action.
"That's why thousands of us will be returning to the streets again next week to demand urgent action from our government to address the climate and ecological crisis," he said.
The group is planning a 'Godalming Gathers' rally at the bandstand on Sunday (August 30th) from noon to 4pm. Attendees are encouraged to take along bikes, flags and banners to spread the climate emergency message.
