Shops, gyms and hairdressers will be allowed to reopen once the current lockdown ends on December 2nd,the Prime Minister has said.

From next Wednesday people will be able to leave home for any purpose and meet up to six others outside.

Outdoor sports will be allowed, and shops will reopen, as will gyms and leisure centres.

The rules also mean up to 4,000 spectators will be allowed to attend outdoor sporting events.

Pubs will be allowed to stay open until 11pm to allow diners and drinkers to finish their pints and food following last orders at 10pm.

Boris Johnson told the House of Commons that the current lockdown across England would not be extended: instead a new three-tier system will come into effect from next Wednesday.

In Tier one people should continue to work from home where possible;

In Tier two only pubs serving meals can open;

and in Tier three all hospitality venues will close except for delivery and takeaway, and indoor entertainment venues must also shut.

Final decisions on which tier each local authority area will be placed into will not be announced until Thursday.

Waverley has been in the lowest tier - medium - since the system was put in place in mid-October.

Local authorities will be given new powers to close down premises that flout the rules, and specially trained officers will be appointed to ensure the guidelines are adhered to, he said.

Mr Johnson said the new tier system would be "tougher", but he said a mix of sticking to the rules, testing and vaccines could see areas move back down to lower tiers - and a return to normality across the country - by the spring.
