Godalming's next town mayor will be Councillor Michael Steel. He will succeed the current mayor, Penny Rivers, whose term of office ends in May.

Cllr Steel is a Liberal Democrat and represents Charterhouse ward on the council. He was town mayor from 1993-94.

Next year's deputy mayor will be Shirley Wardell, who represents the Green Party and is the ward member for Farncombe and Catteshall.

The nominations were accepted by councillors at the full meeting of Godalming Town Council last week, and will be formally voted on at the council's Annual Meeting in May.
