Up to £15,000 of grant funding per household is on offer to householders in Waverley to help make homes warmer this winter.

More than £6.2 million has been made available as part of a central government scheme which will provide grants to eligible homeowners to improve energy efficiency in their homes, cut heating costs and help the environment.

Improving home energy efficiency is one of the simplest ways of saving energy and combating rising energy prices.

Surrey County Council is also contributing £750,000 top-up funding to the Green Jump Surrey project to cover the cost of works up to £15,000.

The eco-friendly 'Green Jump Surrey' initiative, which is being run by Action Surrey on behalf of local authorities including Waverley Borough Council, provides funds for a range of home improvement works including free loft, wall and park home insulation and new renewable heating systems.

Councillor Steve Williams, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said: "As a council working hard to cut back on its own carbon emissions and supporting the move towards a net-zero carbon Waverley borough by 2030, we welcome the initiative. It highlights how district and borough councils can work together to secure an important benefit and funding for Surrey residents who may be struggling with their energy bills.

"Not only will it allow them to make their homes more energy efficient but reduce their carbon footprint too. I urge Waverley residents who might be eligible to apply as soon as possible."

Funding is available to people living in a hard-to-heat home who are either in receipt of a means-tested benefit or have a total household annual income of less than £30,000.

Private and social housing landlords can also receive up to £5,000 to cover two-thirds of the cost of installing solid wall insulation.
