Jecelyn's busy filling boxes for families in need in the Philippines
A Godalming woman is asking for donations of clothes and bedding to be sent to people in need in the Philippines.
Until the Covid pandemic, Jecelyn Brunsden had bought second-hand clothes from charity shops to send back to her home town of Bitibut in the south of the country. But the closure of the shops during the lockdowns meant her source of much-needed items dried up.
Instead, she joined the Buy Nothing Godalming Facebook group, where people give away items they no longer need.
With the help of members of that group, and mums from her children's school, she has seen several large cardboard boxes off on their 12-week sea voyage to the other side of the world.
"The boxes go to some of my distant relatives, that I can trust," she said. "They distribute the items to the neighbours.
"It helps people there so much, especially in this pandemic. They have so little."
Now she is asking for more donations of second-hand flat sheets, pillows, spring and summer clothing for adults and children, trainers, shoes, sandals and bags.
Jecelyn sent the first boxes out in December, and is keen to collect items to fill her current box, which she is hoping to send on Sunday. The boxes cost the same to post whatever their weight, so she ensures they are completely full before dispatching them.
Anyone who would like to donate any items from the above list should contact Jecelyn via her Facebook page to arrange collection.
