South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt has added his voice to the debate over whether the BBC was right to run wall-to-wall coverage of the death of Prince Philip on Friday.

The corporation received so many complaints about its decision to cancel all scheduled programming in order to run tributes to the late Duke of Edinburgh that it decided to set up an online form for people to register their objections. The form has since been removed.

Writing in his weekly letter to constituents, Mr Hunt paid tribute to Prince Philip for his long and devoted service to the country.

And he added: "For what it's worth I think all our broadcasters have been brilliant over the last few days - sometimes, surely, they should put on what we ought to see even if it is not always what we want to see."
