Leisure centre reopening announcement is 'imminent'
An announcement from Waverley on the reopening of Godalming Leisure Centre is imminent.
The council says it is planning to release an update at some point today, much to the relief of sport and exercise fans who use the Summers Road facility.
It was initially hoped the centre would be able to reopen this week, once new social distancing and hygiene measures had been put in place.
But a Waverley spokesman told Nub News the actual date the doors would open was still not available, although an update would be provided today (Thursday).
In a statement, the authority said: "We are working closely with Places Leisure on the re-opening of leisure centres and implementing government and public health advice to make sure that staff and customers can return safely.
"Measures are currently being put in place at all of our facilities to ensure that guidelines are being followed on social distancing, limiting numbers in all activity areas, advanced booking and queuing systems plus increased cleaning procedures."
Places Leisure explains to customers on its website that once the centre reopens: "The gym and pool will be open, although the pool will be for lane swimmers only, there will be limited equipment available in the gym, and exercise classes will be smaller.
"There will also be fewer classes to allow for deep cleaning between sessions. Gym users are asked to wipe down the equipment before and after they use it, and swimmers will need to maintain social distancing in and around the pool.
"Users will have to book before visiting via the centre website, use the hand sanitiser provided and observe social distancing measures throughout the building."
