Godalming Town Council Leader and Waverley Deputy Leader Paul Follows has welcomed the Government's decision to put the country back into a national lockdown.

Cllr Follows told Nub News the move had been "necessary for several weeks".

He added: "I am glad the government are listening to their own scientific advisers and taking this course of action. It is a great shame that parents and teachers had to endure such uncertainly over the last few days, but the correct decision has (eventually) been taken.

Earlier today Cllr Follows criticised Surrey County Council for "sitting on its hands" and not pressuring the Government to shut schools in the county.

"I urge residents to follow the rules for the sake of the community as we get through this last stage toward a larger vaccine rollout."
