Godalming's MP, Jeremy Hunt, is to undergo an operation at the Royal Surrey County Hospital tomorrow after breaking his arm after slipping on ice while out jogging last week.

Mr Hunt broke his left elbow in three places and is to undergo the procedure to reset the bones in the right position. He then faces six weeks in plaster and six weeks of rehab after that.

He joked: "I am tempted to look up at my surgeon tomorrow and repeat the famous Reagan line after he was shot in 1981 'Please tell me you're Republicans.'

Writing in his weekly constituency roundup today, he also thanked wellwishers who had got in touch to wish him a speedy recovery.
