A day of music, art and discussion is being planned for Godalming this month to bring the community together to tackle climate change.

The free online event will take place on Saturday, February 20th. It's being organised by The Godalming Climate Forum, with the backing of Godalming Town Council.

The awareness day is being called Taking Stock, and will feature contributions from several local groups that are working to tackle the issue.

Shirley Wardell, who represents Farncombe and Catteshall on the town council, is helping to organise the event.

Cllr Wardell told Godalming Nub News: "I would like protecting our environment to be the easiest and cheapest thing for people to do. People care, and they want to be fair, so I want everyone to help each other look after our amazing planet.

"We have all been a bit frustrated that we can't do more together during Covid. Things like planting, cooking, reducing waste, playing music together and sharing ideas around a meal have all been put on hold.

"The Godalming Climate Forum have put together a day where we can support each other and think about what we would like to do, and generally make the environment our top priority."

The events planned for the day are:

11am Opening: Penny Rivers, Mayor of Godalming.
  1. 30am Climate Heroes - Share your Climate Heroes, which hero do you choose to be? Hosted by Shirley Wardell and Dr Cecilia Askham from NORSUS, a research institute in Norway that examines the impact of products and services over their entire life cycle.
