Please wait to be called for your Covid-19 jab, urges GP surgery

People seeking to get the Covid-19 vaccine are being asked not to contact The Mill Medical Practice, and to wait to to be called for the jab.

Staff at the practice have been asked by NHS England to start delivering the COVID-19 mass vaccination programme from tomorrow.

A spokesman said: "This will be done by working together with other local GP practices to provide the vaccines, rather doing vaccinations here at the practice.

"To enable everyone to get the vaccine in a safe and controlled way, a prioritisation list has been established so the vaccine can be delivered to groups who need it first."

Staff from the practice are reassuring patients they will be contacted when they become eligible to receive the vaccine.

In a statement, the practice added: "We are working hard to plan the delivery of COVID-19 vaccinations, while continuing to deliver the largest-ever flu vaccine campaign and supporting our patients with routine and urgent health requests. On that basis, we are unable to answer additional questions about the COVID vaccine."

At Binscombe Medical Centre staff are making contact with patients eligible for the jab.

A spokesman said: "We have been made aware that practices can start arranging vaccination appointments for patients who are aged 80 and above.

"At present, the vaccine will be administered at a central hub, and not at the surgery. There will be four hubs set up across Guildford and Waverley, with the first being at St Christopher's & St Bartholomew's Church hall in Haslemere.

"Appointments are available for our patients at this venue and there are spaces on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th December.

"We are currently in the process of contacting our patients who are over 80 to make these appointments. This is quite a time-consuming task as there are understandably a lot of questions to answer. We also have to explain that the vaccine isn't going to be given at Binscombe and this often means contacting other family members to arrange transport.

"We have a list of patients to contact, but if you or a member of your family are over 80, would like to be vaccinated and are available later this week to attend the clinic in Haslemere, please contact reception on 01483 415115."

The centre says staff will continue to contact patients in other priority groups as future clinic dates become available.

The priority groups for the vaccine, in order, are:

Residents in a care home for older adults and their carers

People aged 80 and over, and frontline health and social care workers

People aged 75 and over

People aged 70 and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals (excluding pregnant women and those under 16)

People aged 65 years and over

People aged 16 to 64 with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality

People aged 60 years and over

People aged 55 and over

People aged 50 years and over

The rest of the population (priority to be determined).
