Pumpkin pickin' fun on the farm!

Pictured at the Secretts pumpkin field in Milford are Anina McSorley and Annalise Baldock, with Amelia and Oliver - and their pumpkins.

The group joined families from across the area for this week's Pumpkin Trail, which saw the fields decked out with ghoulish ghosts, cobwebs and pumpkin decorations.

The farm grew over 30,000 pumpkins this year, most of which have been snapped up by families, some travelling from as far afield as north London.

Nicola Secrett, who organised this year's event with husband Greg, said the families had clearly enjoyed their visits.

"It was hard to organise this year as we had to take account of social distancing," she told Nub News, "but everybody seemed really happy.

"We are delighted that we could do something that got everybody outside again."

Normally Secretts would offer tractor and trailer rides as part of the experience, but Covid has meant the event has had to be scaled down this year.

However it hasn't diminished in popularity, with the tickets selling out within four days of going on sale.

"To be perfectly honest, everyone has said that they have enjoyed walking to the field this year," Nicola said.

The pumpkins were all grown on the farm: the seeds were sown in May, and required constant watering once they germinated. Two weeks before Pumpkin Week the pumpkins were cut from the vines and distributed across the fields for visitors to collect.

Once loaded up with their prize pumpkins, families then enjoyed refreshments including hot drinks, sausages, curry, and, of course, pumpkin soup.
