A group of friends from Godalming have pledged to run every day of January to raise funds for hospice charity Phyllis Tuckwell.

Kirsty Taylor from the group told Godalming Nub News: "We are a group of friends of varying levels of fitness, most of whom met through attending outdoor fitness classes via Touchline Fitness in Godalming.

The Run Every Day Challenge was suggested by group member Kev Lomas as something for members to take part in while classes are suspended during lockdown.

"We wanted to challenge ourselves, while raising money for a brilliant local charity." Kirsty said.

"We planned to run off the Christmas excess, get ourselves fitter, while lifting our spirits and strengthening our mental health with some daily exercise in these difficult times."

The group is currently on Day 27, with only five runs left including today.

The group is asking for people to donate to the cause via their Justgiving page.

Kirsty added: "We've all had to contend with rain, sleet, fog, ice, snow, day runs, night runs, mild temperatures and freezing temperatures. We have one amazing lady who is pregnant and participating, some people who have been struck down with illness, people working and some home-schooling - the team has offered each other amazing encouragement and support.

"Raising funds for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care has definitely kept us going - knowing that the money we raise will be put to such great use at a time when charities are struggling for support."
