Godalming Theatre Group wll be putting on a play with a difference this autumn, with a digital production taking the place of its usual live performance.
A spokesperson for the group said: "Prior to lockdown, we had been looking at the play Two by Jim Cartwright for our October slot. Since then, we have been exploring different ways in which we could still do some sort of 'performance' of that particular work.
Mebers have decided that, to comply with the rules around social distancing, they will record the performance and send it out digitally to their audience.
Two was written by award-winning playwright Jim Cartwright. Described as 'A sharp and touching slice of English life set in a pub owned by a savagely bickering husband and wife', Two is a series of short vignettes that combine pathos and humour to give an insight into the different patrons - each with a story to tell. The play itself consists of nine scenes with actors working in pairs or delivering monologues. This means that rehearsals and filming can be carried out while abiding by social distancing regulations.
The production will be filmed at The Star pub in Petworth, with rehearsals takng place over Zoom.
Jenny Seddon from the group told Nub News the audience would be encouraged to make a donation to the Community Store in return for their virtual tickets. "We will not be charging to view this performance," she said. "It will be free, but we will be accepting donations for the Godalming Community Store, which is held where we usually rehearse, at The Wilfrid Noyce Centre, and they do an amazing job!" The group aims to complete the project by the beginning of November at the latest. Box office details will be made available in due course.
