Advertising message vans will be touring Surrey beauty spots this weekend, reminding people of the lockdown rules.

Surrey Resilience Forum, which has organised the drive, says the vans will be sent to areas that have attracted large number of visitors in recent weeks.

The vans will be displaying reminders that people are only permitted to mix alone with one other member of another household, and only for exercise.

The forum is also reminding people to stay local to where they live, and only leave their home for exercise or essential shopping.

Surrey now has one of the highest infection rates per 100,000 people in the UK. The infection rate across the county increased by 46 percent between the periods 19th to 25th December and 26th December to 1st January.

The Chair of Surrey's Local Resilience Forum, Steve Owen-Hughes, said: "We need everyone to play their part at this critical point. Cases have been rising and there is no doubt that the virus is more transmissible than it was before.

"Therefore, it's vitally important that we all stick to the rules and stay at home. If you're heading out for exercise, please stay local to where you live and do not mix in groups."
