Waverley will remain in Tier Two of the government's Covid restrictions, Jeremy Hunt has confirmed.

The Godalming MP Tweeted: "Just spoken 2 @MattHancock

who has confirmed to me that Waverley is staying in Tier 2 which will be a relief to many-but reassured him we will remain totally vigilant and play our part to keep virus under control. "All advised to avoid household mixing at Christmas unless essential." There was initial confusion following PM Boris Johnson's announcement shortly after 4pm today that large areas of the south east, the east and London would be put under the new Tier Four restrictions. Waverley Borough Council Deputy Leader and Godalming Town Council Leader Paul Follows told Nub News it was "pretty certain" that Waverley would remain in Tier Two, while surrounding areas were placed into Tier Four. The new restrictions mean: - people should work from home if possible

- people should stay at home as much as possible

- all non-essential shops must close

- all leisure facilities, including gyms, must close

- individuals can only meet one person from another household outdoors

- communal worship can continue with social distancing in place

- everyone should stay within their local area

- international travel is not allowed for those in Tier 4 areas unless there are exceptional circumstances.
