The Cellar has found a new home.

Trustees of the charity say they are in the final stages of negotiation with Waverley Borough Council to move into a new building - and are hopeful of being ready to open the doors to customers next month.

The Cellar left its Crown Court home after 41 years in July. The new Cellar will be opening up in the former Burys Cafe building next to Waverley's offices in Bridge Street.

Dr Chris Jagger, Chair of the Warehouse Christian Trust (Cellar and Skillway) told Nub News the organisation was looking forward to setting up shop there.

"It has much more space than The Cellar and is purpose built," he said.

"Waverley have been very kind in allowing us to have this, and we are working on setting up a three- to five-year lease which is in process with their estates and legal departments."

Dr Jagger said trustees hoped to have the keys by October 19th.

The Cellar was originally set up for the young people of the town to discourage them from using pubs. Over the years it has been host to many different social groups including squatters, bikers, young mums and students from Godalming Sixth Form College.
