A Godalming woman has launched an online appeal to help staff affected by the recent fire at The Red Lion, which broke out just days after the pub reopened following weeks of lockdown.

Wendy Mansfield launched the Gofundme appeal after learning that the personal effects of the staff were not covered by the pub's contents insurance.

"Not only have they lost their livelihoods, but the staff have lost their homes and possessions - clothes, shoes, jewellery, photos, even towels and toiletries," she said.

"I want to fund raise funds as a community, to show we really do care and we will help in anyway we can and we will come together.

"I am only too aware that many of us cannot give money but we can 'do' things and so, if like me, money is too tight then please give whatever you can. Pop in and show your support, when open, drop in a plant, a small gift, just give a thumbs up but please help."

Here is the fundraising page.
