Caesars Place phone mast decision deferred

A plan to place a phone mast and four telecoms dishes on the roof of a retirement apartment building near the town centre is still hanging in the balance after the matter was deferred by Waverley councillors last night.

A decision on the scheme for a 5.5m telecoms pole, four dishes and four equipment cabinets on the roof of Caesars Place in Ockford Road, has been put back to a later date after an application by Godalming Central and Ockfords councillor Paul Follows.

The application was submitted by MBNL, better known as Three.

Residents of the 31-apartment development objected that the mast would blight the view from their homes and damage the roof of the building, as well as raising health concerns. They also say parking will be an issue while the mast is erected, and when engineers visit to maintain the structure.

Waverley planning officials recommended granting permission, but Cllr Follows explained to Nub News last night: "Several months ago this was deferred for a site visit and for some reason was back on the agenda this evening without one.

"As the local ward councillor I requested it be deferred again to allow this to happen and so it was taken off the agenda tonight."
