Children challenged to keep reading this summer

By The Editor 2nd Aug 2020

If you are looking for something to keep your children occupied over the summer, you might want to consider signing them up for the Surrey Libraries Summer Reading Challenge.

This year, children are being invited to join the Silly Squad, a celebration of funny books, happiness and laughter.

The challenge, which is aimed at four to 11 year olds, is promoted by the Reading Agency as a way to keep children reading durng the summer holidays. The programme reaches over 700,000 children each year, motivating them to keep reading and helping to maintain reading skills and conï¬dence.

Silly Squad packs are now available at Godalming Library. The packs contain all children need to take part in the challenge. When they have read six books they can go back to the library and collect their medal and certificate.

There are no rules about what children need to read as part of the challenge; they are being told to read 'anything that makes you happy – whether it be comics, joke books, poetry, fiction or non fiction'.

There is also an online version for people unable to visit the library: you can sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge website here.
