Young canoeists in Godalming will be able to paddle their way along the Wey with greater ease, thanks to a cash injection from Godalming Town Council.
The Godalming District Scout Canoe Club applied to the town council for a £500 grant from its Council Community Fund to pay for new paddles. The new paddles have a more ergonomic and efficient design, which will help their young paddlers to develop their technique and confidence, and to use equipment similar to that used by their coaches.
Club chairman Simon Beresford said the club was grateful for the grant. He added: "We are all looking forward to a time when we can re-start paddling experiences and courses in Godalming using the new paddles; when that happens we will be very happy for anyone from Godalming Town Council to join us for a session and experience the difference the new paddles make, and the effort, determination and transformation that occurs in our young paddlers.
"Thanks again to Godalming Town Council for its support."
As well as the General Grants Fund, Service Level Agreements and the Council Community Fund, the Carbon Reduction & Biodiversity Fund invites applications for projects seeking to reduce CO2 emissions and promote biodiversity in Godalming.
