Godalming town councillors are looking forward to the year ahead, and have agreed to start planning new events for next year, alongside the old favourites.

The council's Policy and Management Committee agreed at a recent meeting that planning for future events was particularly important in light of the fact that so many events have had to be cancelled this year because of the pandemic.

Over the last 10 years the council has backed and organised many successful town events, including annual events such as the Spring Festival, Staycation, the Remembrance Sunday Parade and the Godalming and Farncombe Christmas Lights Switch-on events.

The council has also supported a wealth of other events, including Sport Godalming's Godalming Run, the Round Table's Town Show and Carnival and the Godalming and District Chamber of Commerce's Food Festival, as well as national celebrations including the Queen's Jubilee and Olympic Torch relay events.

Next year they will be working on several new additions to the calendar, including 'fringe' and environmental awareness events, and will work with other groups to develop a plan for the town to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
