Domestic violence charity awards Surrey County Council White Ribbon status

Surrey County Council as become a White Ribbon accredited organisation in recognition of its commitment to tackling domestic abuse and .
White Ribbon UK is part of a global movement aimed at ending male violence against women and girls. The charity works to challenge cultures which lead to harassment, abuse and violence while spreading a message of equality and respect for all.
The award recognises the steps the council has taken to tackle domestic abuse and its stated commitment to future work.
Surrey has worked with its partners to provide more emergency refuge accommodation for families escaping domestic abuse, and also plans to introduce domestic violence advisers into A&E departments at Surrey hospitals. White Ribbon accredited status entitles organisations to get access to information and training materials and support from the White Ribbon UK team to further develop its plans. Sinead Mooney, Surrey County Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, said: "In Surrey our vision is for every adult and child experiencing domestic abuse to be seen, safe and heard and free from the harm caused by the behaviour of perpetrators. "White Ribbon accredited status recognises the work we're already doing and will assist us in going further to tackle this scourge in our society."
