Godalming businesses to get Covid compliance checks

By The Editor 24th Feb 2021

Waverley Borough Council is to introduce checks on businesses and shops across the area to make sure they are sticking to Covid-19 regulations.

The authority says the move is being made to help stop the spread of Covid and reinforce the messaging around social distancing and hygiene.

Environmental health officers will contact businesses directly to carry out the checks and offer advice.

Waverley Councillor Nick Palmer, who holds the portfolio for operational and enforcement services, said: "Although cases of coronavirus in Waverley have been reducing in recent days, we all have a part to play in maintaining this downward trend and to ensure everyone stays safe in the borough.

"Whilst the vast majority of businesses are taking their responsibilities really seriously, we need every single one to do their bit to help us to control the risk and protect people from the spread of coronavirus. "In the coming weeks, we will be talking to local businesses in Waverley to offer helpful advice and to understand how they are managing risks in line with their specific business activity. All businesses are in scope for these spot checks."
