Monday will see the second phase of restrictions easing as part of the Government's four-step plan to move the country out of lockdown.

The following changes will take place:

  • All non-essential shops will be allowed to open, along with close-contact services, including hairdressers and beauty salons
  • Restaurants and pubs will be allowed to serve food and alcohol to customers sitting outdoors (you will no longer be required to order a substantial meal with alcoholic drinks and there will be no curfew)
  • Table service and face-covering rules still apply
  • Wider social contact rules will also remain in these settings to prevent indoor mixing between different households
  • Indoor leisure and gyms can reopen, as can outdoor attractions such as mini-golf or drive-in cinemas
  • Public buildings, libraries and community centres can open their doors
  • Members of the same household can take a holiday in England in self-contained accommodation or holiday lets
  • Weddings attended by up to 15 people can take place. All children's activities, indoor parent and child groups (up to 15 parents) to restart
  • Driving lessons can re-start in England and Wales, with tests expected to resume on April 22nd.

Godalming Town Council is urging shoppers to 'put down their laptops' on Monday and head into the town to do their shopping with local retailers rather than continuing to shop online.

It is reiterating the social distancing measures and the 'Hands, face, space' message, and urging people to shop carefully to keep themselves and others safe.

To help with social distancing, the High Street will be closed to traffic from 10.30am to 3.30pm every day until June 21st.

Currently, phase three of the Government's roadmap is scheduled to come into force on May 17th. However, the Government has advised that the country will only move onto the next step of the roadmap if its assessments deem it safe to do so.
