Godalming will mark the first NHS, Social Care and Frontline Workers Day on July 5th with decorations and celebratory events.

The day will mark 63 years since the National Health Service was formed in 1958, and is being organised across the country to pay tribute to the workers who kept essential services running during the pandemic.

To mark the occasion, council staff will drape bunting around the mid-level of The Pepperpot.

Councillors agreed at last week's full council meeting that this cheaper option would be preferable to a more expensive display that would involve bedecking the Pepperpot with Christmas lights put up by a contractor.

A programme of events is also being drawn up by the council, in conjunction with the latest Covid-19 social distancing guidelines that could apply on the day.
