Map renames Godalming for one of its famous sons

The People Map of the UK takes the rather delightful idea of naming places after a famous person who was born in, lived in or was otherewise connected to a place.

The top name people search for on Wikipedia has been connected to their town: thus Dorking would be named for Sir Laurence Olivier, Leatherhead would be renamed Michael Caine, and Aldershot would become Martin Freeman.

Godalming, under this list, would become not Phil Collins or Mick Mills or even Mary Tofts, but Australian actor Sam Worthington, who was born in the town and spent the first six months of his life here before his parents took him to live Down Under.

His CV - taken, naturally, straight from Wikipedia - is an interesting one: He is best known for playing Jake Sully in the Avatar film series, Marcus Wright in Terminator Salvation, and Perseus in Clash of the Titans as well as its sequel Wrath of the Titans. He then transitioned to more dramatic roles, appearing in Everest (2015), Hacksaw Ridge (2016), The Shack (2017), Manhunt: Unabomber (2017), and Fractured (2019). He also voiced the protagonist, Captain Alex Mason, in the video games Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010), Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012) and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018).

In 2004, Worthington received Australia's highest film award for his lead role in Somersault.

So there you go. A little bit of Christmas trivia you may wish to keep up your sleeve for any festive quiz you have planned.

If you fancy perusing the map, here's the link.
