Please leave your bin out until it's collected, Waverley urges residents

Waverley Borough Council is asking residents to be patient after a high level of Covid-related sickness among collection crews left bins in Godalming unemptied this week.

The authority received several reports of bins being left at the roadside this week as contractor Biffa struggled with depleted staff numbers.

A Waverley spokeswoman told Nub News: "We are aware that our contractor Biffa is experiencing some issues with staff absence due to Covid-19 which has resulted in delays to the completion of rounds on their due days.

"This, in conjunction with changes to collection dates around Christmas which residents are notified of in advance via our website, leaflets and social media messages, sometimes still leads to confusion at this time of year.

"With the continued rise in Covid and self-isolation cases, Biffa are expecting the next few weeks to be extremely challenging, however, we are liaising closely with our contractor and they are bringing in additional resources to catch up and to continue to deliver the best service they can in these exceptional circumstances.

"Please can we remind residents that if there is a delay to their bin collection, to please leave their bin out until it is emptied. Bin collection dates can be checked by visiting our website bin collection date page."
