There will be no public parade or church service to mark Remembrance Sunday this year.

That too has now had to be cancelled. Mayor Penny Rivers will instead lay a tribute at the war memorial on behalf of the town on Sunday. Representatives of other groups will also lay wreaths, including representatives of Service organisations, the Royal British Legion and Surrey County Council. A town council spokesman said: "The town council fully appreciates Godalming residents may still wish to visit the war memorial during the Remembrance period to pay their respects, however, we would ask you to avoid visiting the memorial at 11am on Remembrance Sunday. "If you do visit the war memorial, please ensure you adhere to the latest guidelines and observe social distancing." The Royal British Legion is encouraging residents to take part in the two-minute silence on their doorstep or inside their homes as a mark of remembrance at 11am on Remembrance Sunday, and to display a poppy in their window.
