Town council's move is delayed

By The Editor 5th Aug 2020

Godalming Town Council's planned move from its Bridge Street home to the former Raquet Shop building opposite the Pepperpot has been delayed due to coronavirus.

The council says work on the building, to make it fit for use as office space, and to make the building compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act, had to stop during the pandemic. Now it has restarted but is, as a result, behind schedule.

A spokesperson for the council told Nub News this week: "Although we had planned to move over the summer, due to the changing priorities it is now hoped that the town council will move into the new premises at the end of the year."

The town council paid £430,000 last year for the 999-year lease on the building at 107-109 High Street.

The authority borrowed £430,000 from the Public Works Loan Board to make the purchase. The 50-year loan will be repaid in annual instalments of around £15,520.
