Godalming's Pizza Express to stay as company plans to shut 67 stores nationwide

The Godalming branch of Pizza Express is not among those earmarked for closure as the company moves to restructure its debts.

The company announced on Tuesday morning that it is planning to enter a company voluntary arrangement in the 'near future' in a bid to push down its rents at its sites across the country.

It is also planning to close at least 67 of its UK restaurants, putting up to 1,100 jobs at risk.

But it looks as though Godalming's branch, in the High Street, might have escaped the axe.

A member of staff told Nub News this morning: "We haven't had any information."

But a spokeperson for the company told Nub News: "We cannot say at this time which branches will be closing, further information regarding these will be announced next week.

"However, we have already re-opened 160 restaurants and later this week we will announce a further 80 that will be opening. There are no plans to close the stores that will have re-opened."

In a further statement this afternoon a spokesperson added: "What the future estate will, look like has yet to be agreed, but there are no plans to close any of the reopened restaurants."
