Staff at Watts Gallery have expressed their appreciation to fire crews after a fire at Limnerslease Studios in Compton on Friday night.

Eight fire crews, a water carrier and an incident command unit attended the electrical fire on the ground floor of the studios, part of the Watts Gallery Artists Village.

The fire was put out by a four-person crew wearing breathing apparatus.

In a statement, Watts Gallery said: "Watts Gallery Trust is grateful to the emergency services, staff and neighbours for their support during the incident."

Limnerslease, a Grade II listed house, was designed by the Arts & Crafts architect Sir Ernest George for GF Watts and his wife Mary, and was completed in 1891.
