Winkworth Arboretum wins Tripadvisor award
The National Trust has announced that Winkworth has received a Tripadvisor Travellers Choice award.
The award, given by the visitor experience website, is given to the top 10% of attractions across the world.
These are exciting times for Winkworth, with plans for a new visitor centre, cafe, shop and toilets being given the go-ahead by Waverley in May.
The building will be timber clad, with full-length glass panels, and feature a covered terraced area. Fox Cottage, a three-bedroomed house on the site, is to be converted into office space.
The plans will see the car park re-sited and traffic management measures brought in to address concerns voiced by Busbridge and Hascombe parish councils.
The number of parking spaces will be increased from 660 to 672, with 272 spaces in the main car park and 400 in the overflow area, which is used 12 to 13 times per year.
The National Trust has also agreed to open the car park gates at 9am each day, one hour before the arboretum opens, to prevent queues building up on the B2130.
Visits to Winkworth Arboretum need to be booked in advance. To book a slot, visit the website here.
