Waverley Borough Council's Deputy Leader, Paul Follows, has expressed surprise at the decision by the Government to wait until Boxing Day to move Waverley into Tier Four.

He told Nub News: "Looking at the data, I am not sure why the government are waiting until Boxing Day to make this change.

"Although Waverley has been below all the other Surrey boroughs for almost every metric (and remains so) - cases have been rising significantly across the whole of the South East of England.

"Many of us at the council expected this and the borough will act immediately. Certainly this is what I have said to any residents I have spoken to this week as rumours have been circulating for days."
