Now the rules on face masks have changed, and we all have to wear face coverings in shops and other enclosed public spaces, Nub News went out on the street to Take the Temperature of the Town on the matter...
"I am 100% in favour, I think we should have been wearing them for months," said Dawn Hetherington. "I started wearing a mask in April, and I usually wear it when I am out. If people walk by me I cover my face, because if they are asymptomatic they don't know if they have got it. A mask protects me and other people."
Jilly Wood, who was shopping for shoes with her two children, said: "I find it a bit annoying, particularly with kids, because you can't communicate properly, to the point that I wouldn't normally go shopping with them. We haven't been shopping for days but we need to get shoes.
"I just think it's mixed messaging. Why do you have to wear them in a shop but not in an office? People in the hairdresser's and barber's aren't wearing them." Jamie Hayes said: "If you are happy wearing one then fair enough. I don't think it's that great, to be honest, because you have to use your hands to take it off and then you touch products in the shops."I personally don't agree with it, though I do have one with me."
Ada Boranegra told Nub News she disliked wearing a mask.
"I just hate it," she said. "I am very claustrophobic and it covers my mouth and I am wearing glases, what a nightmare! I came out today because I had to but I won't be going in the shops for a long time." And hairdresser Nello Coppola, from Halo Hair and Nello Style, said the mask made it difficult for some customers to understand what he is saying."If people are little bit older and a little bit deaf they look in the mirror sometimes to understand what you are saying. But with a face mask they can't do that," he said. "It's a great challenge."
So how has your day been? Have you felt more comfortable with people around you wearing masks? Or will you avoid enclosed public spaces until this is all over? Let us know on our Facebook page!
