A quiet day in the town centre

Godalming was quiet today.
Not quiet as in the shops weren't busy, or it was easy to park.
Quiet as in - little sound. Many of the shops and cafes and pubs have been forced to close again under Lockdown 3, as we know, although quite a few are still open for click-and-collect or takeaways.
But Godalming today didn't have its normal buzz of business. People didn't cluster in groups to chat and laugh, the school playgrounds were devoid of children's voices and the pubs were shuttered.
Quite a few residents were evidently out for their daily exercise - many carrying cardboard cups of coffee as they walked. But the buzz and hum of traffic and talk was absent. It was almost as if someone had reached for the volume button and turned it right down.
The town has, in effect, shifted online for much of its business for the next few weeks. But the estate agents, opticians, garages, solicitors, food shops, takeaway outlets and hardware stores are still open.
Let's support them all while we endure this latest lockdown, and remain optimistic that with the coming of Easter we will see - and hear - the life of our town out on our streets and in our shops and local businesses again.
Nub News would like to help support local businesses still carrying on through this lockdown. Get in touch and give us details of your services and we'll publicise them free of charge.
