Tier Two: What are the rules?

17th Dec 2020 | Local News

Waverley is staying in Tier Two as the Government announces the new tiers for the whole of England.

That means that:

Hospitality businesses can remain open until 11pm, with last orders at 10pm, but only those businesses which also serve substantial meals and offer table service will be allowed to open.

Mixing of households, unless in support bubbles, will not be allowed indoors. The 'rule of six' will apply outdoors.

Spectator sports can resume with social distancing and limited numbers. There will be a maximum crowd outdoors of up to 50 per cent of the occupancy of the stadium, up to a maximum 2,000 people. There is a limit of 1,000 people indoors.

Indoor entertainment venues such as bowling alleys, casinos and cinemas must remain closed in this tier.

Weddings can go ahead with a maximum of 15 attendees, but receptions are not allowed. A maximum of 15 mourners are allowed at funerals.

Those rules, which come into effect from midnight on Saturday, only apply to Waverley.

Just up the road in Guildford, however, under the Tier Three restrictions, members of more than one household are banned from mixing with one another in any setting indoors, in private gardens or in most outdoor venues. They can still meet in outdoor public spaces, but the rule of six will still apply.

Pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants will have to close their doors, and offer a takeaway or delivery service only.

All indoor entertainment venues, such as casinos, bowling alleys and cinemas must remain closed.

Weddings can go ahead with a maximum of 15 attendees, but receptions are not allowed. A maximum of 15 mourners are allowed at funerals.

There will be a five-day relaxation of restrictions across the country from December 23rd to 27th, which will allow up to three households to meet up to celebrate Christmas.

Reviews are being carried out every two weeks, with the next planned for December 30th.
