Godalming's growth charted in old maps

Godalming has changed dramatically over the last century or so - and a new online resource from the National Library of Scotland demonstrates just how much.
The site allows you to compare how the UK is mapped today with dozens of older maps dating back to the 1880s.
It's interesting to note how the main residential and commercial development followed the course of the larger roads, in contrast to the large areas of housing that have grown up in and around the town over the past 50 years.
Note also the paper mill and the Langham Factory, both now long gone. The map also marks the 'old' and 'new' stations.
