A teatime treat for older folk living alone is bringing a touch of cheer as we battle through these dreary lockdown days.

Little packages of afternoon tea - a teabag, a chocolate biscuit, a puzzle page and a pen - are being delivered by Farncombe Day Centre staff and volunteers to people who receive a daily hot lunch from the centre.

The idea is the brainchild of funeral arranger Ingrid Collins, at Farncombe Funeralcare.

She told Godalming Nub News: "This time of year is a really dreary time, and if you are living on your own and you normally get out and see your friends for lunch, or for a cup of tea, you can't do that at the moment, and that's really miserable. I just wanted to reach out and bring a bit of sunshine to a dreary January."

The pens, puzzle pages and chocolate biscuits are supplied by the Co-op, while Farncombe Day Centre is passing on teabags supplied by the Community Store, so it's a community wide effort.

A total of 74 packages are being delivered each week, and Ingrid says that she has a few packages left over each time, so if you know someone who lives alone and would benefit from receiving one, you can pop into the Farncombe Funeralcare office in Farncombe Street and pick one up.
