As Covid cases in Waverley start to rise again, the borough council is urging residents to keep sticking to Government guidelines to help stop the spread.

Waverley remains at Tier 1 (Medium), and figures from Public Health England show 132 new cases in the borough in the week to October 23rd.

Elmbridge remains the only borough in the county in Tier 2.

Waverley's deputy leader Paul Follows today urged people to follow the rules. He said it was "more important than ever to follow all the government guidelines in order to protect our community." He said: "A frequent question I am getting from residents is asking us what the tier thresholds are. We know that they are based on a basket of different indicators but the government do not tell us what they are, despite how many times we have asked." And he added: "For me, the more important question is going to start to become: once we cross into the next tier, what's the game plan to get out of it again? "But for now, we are really trying to avoid going up to that higher level, and so the basic guidance remains, and we urge residents to follow it." Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds Wear a face covering when required Keep a two-metre distance from those outside your household Do not meet up in groups of more than six.
